HOPE Curriculum and Games

HOPE Social Justice Games

HOPE Collaborative developed and revamped many familiar games to have a social justice lens. We use these games to educate our Youth Action Board on various topics such as food justice, environmental justice, redlining, systemic oppression, amongst other important issues that permeate life in Oakland. Feel free to use these games to support your youth learning processes!
Justice Taboo
3 players and up
10 minutes - 30 minutes

Set Up
  • Print out sheets and cut individual rectangles out. One side will be the featured word, the other side will be the taboo list of words you are not allowed to say.
  • Paste the two sides together to form one single card that is front and back with the featured word and corresponding taboo words and phrases. For example: the "Redlining" card would have the "segregation, housing discrimination, and racial bias" phrases on the opposite side. Do this for all cards.
Rules
  • Split players into teams with an even number of players
  • One player from team 1 will be responsible for describing the featured word on the card
