Reflections From a Youth Leader
by Belinda Bautista Pablo, former YAB Member and Youth Leader
My time as a YAB member at HOPE Collaborative heavily impacted my life and ignited a passion in me to support my community. I would describe my time at YAB as informative and helpful. New things I learned at YAB as a Youth Leader was how to become patient and open-minded while also maintaining rules and obligations of a youth leader.
In YAB, I received a lot of experience that I know will be beneficial for me in the future. One of the events YAB hosted that I received experience from is our taste test events, where we went to the liquor store One Stop in East Oakland and distributed full water bottles with bowls of healthy vegetable soup. I learned how many people in my community need my help, and how they appreciated anything that I am able to offer.
With my experience as a YAB youth leader, I am able to confidently say I have strengthened my traits as a leader and am able to apply all that I have learned in YAB to other roles of my life such as a school leader, a job, and as an older sibling. My YAB member experience is unforgettable and will always assist me wherever I am. I encourage anyone I can to join YAB because with such an amazing experience, I know their lives will be impacted too.
