Development Consultant (Temporary, Part-Time)
Background
HOPE Collaborative, a project of the Tides Center, is a collaborative of residents, organizations, and public agencies in Oakland, California who are creating a more racially and economically equitable future through community-driven food and neighborhood initiatives.
We are seeking a development consultant to sharpen our organizational fundraising strategies and expand our grant-writing capacity to sustain our work in the years ahead. The consultant should have proven success securing single- and multi-year grants that support community-based public health initiatives, including in the areas of food justice, environmental & climate justice, and/or neighborhood planning and power-building.
We anticipate that this consultancy would last approximately one year, with a possible extension. This is a temporary part-time contracted position, requiring approximately 18 hours per week, at $34 per hour, with the option to be fully remote or hybrid in our office in Oakland.
Through the duration of this engagement, the development consultant will help develop a more systematic grant development approach for our organization, particularly through (but not necessarily limited to) the following duties and responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead proposal development for grant opportunities as appropriate (minimum of three grants during this engagement, including at least two proposals for six-figure grants)
- Develop and implement a grant opportunity tracker to assist HOPE Collaborative staff in finding and applying for future grant opportunities.
- Work with HOPE Collaborative Co-Directors to develop and initiate a long-term funding plan.
- Help to build our staff’s capacity in prospecting for new grant opportunities.
- Support the development of funder relationships with foundations, giving circles, and individual donors through established networks.
- Assist in the completion of a grant application template and language bank to streamline future proposal- and report-writing processes.
