HEALTHY CORNER STORE PROJECT

HOPE Collaborative’s Healthy Corner Store Project supports the expansion and improvement of existing small grocers such as corner stores or liquor stores in an effort to increase the availability of nutritious and affordable food. We connect stores with financing, technical assistance, and community support and partners so they can increase their provision of fresh or prepared healthy food options. We believe investments in quality food markets in underserved areas will directly benefit low-income communities through access to nutritious and affordable foods, and by establishing community anchors.
Three Amigos Market and Deli - East Oakland
Abdu treats his customers like family and dreams of selling healthier food at his store. Thank you to our generous supporters of Abdu and Three Amigos Market, who helped raise $10K to renovate his deli so he can sell healthy sandwiches and salads!

HOPE has been working on store makeovers which will target merchandising and product mix, and workforce training. The ultimate goal is to use the pilot to incubate a more comprehensive program and create a localized eco-system where community groups and residents can work with store owners on an on-going basis.
